Biscontini Yacht Design – Roberto Biscontini
Sailing performance was one of the most important considerations when designing the Advanced A44. Although this yacht is not a pure racing machine, the hull lines, appendages and sail plan are clearly derived from our experience in designing racing boats for the America’s Cup and Volvo Ocean Races. The hull of the A44 is wide and the maximum beam is moved all the way aft to facilitate righting and minimize drag at high speeds. The draft of the bulb keel is comparable to that of pure racing boats of a similar size. We did not want to compromise on stability and hydrodynamic efficiency by choosing a shallow draft. There are two rudders for maximum control, maneuverability and efficiency when heeling. The sail plan includes a mainsail with square sails, which significantly improves aerodynamic efficiency. The overall weight has been kept low through teamwork on the deck layout, interior and structures to give the Advanced A44 the performance and feel of a thoroughbred racing boat.
Nauta Design
Daysailers are becoming increasingly popular – even among people who own larger and more high-maintenance yachts – and the market for this type of yacht is growing. The Advanced A44 is a true daysailer: sporty, fun and fast on the water. The hull, appendages and sail plan are by Roberto Biscontini, a well-known name in the world of high performance sailing.
Nauta Design has designed and created the deck, coachroof and interior for day use, but they can also be adapted for short and medium cruising.
Both on deck and below deck, the Advanced A44 is a quality product: dynamic and maneuverable, yet comfortable and relaxing.
